Girls' Football Team win Bronze Medal!

29th April 2018

Our Girls’ Football Team are bound for the Bristol Cross City Football Finals at Ashton Gate on Tuesday 22nd May after finishing 3rd overall out of a total of 26 teams in the South Bristol Tournament. After 3 weeks of fantastic football we finished joint second in the top group of 8 teams but missed out on a place in the final on goal difference after winning 5, drawing 1 and losing 1 game. Our teamwork, commitment and athleticism is perhaps best demonstrated by the fact that we scored 9 goals and conceded just 1.

The Girls responded to the disappointment of missing out on the final by saving our best performance for the Bronze medal game against St Peter’s. With the game finishing 1-1 after normal time Yasmin produced a moment of individual brilliance to race down the left wing before cutting inside to deliver a rocket of a shot into the top right-hand corner. The whole team performed heroically but special mention must go to our Goalkeeper, Ellie, who made two excellent saves in the game.

It was a pleasure to work with the team and I was incredibly proud of their performances. However, it was the way they conducted themselves and represented our school that is perhaps their most notable quality. This included acting with complete honesty and integrity during the games by letting the referee know if a mistake had been made in our favour.

A huge well done to Layla, Yasmin, Tchii, Aisha, Lucy, Astrid, Rosie, Lily and Ellie. Let’s get ready for a great day at Ashton Gate!
